ETM’S Ali Klaver talks to Simon Taylor from CommVault about changing the way organizations think about and manage their information into a top-down approach that aligns both IT and business perspectives.
A lot of the traditional problems with data mismanagement are caused because organizations approach it from a top-down perspective, so it’s business-driven need around some form of risk. Typically what happens, if we take records compliance for example, an organization takes a very siloed and implementation approach from an IT perspective to group together that information and keep it in a particular way. For instance, if you look at a finance organization complying to something like SEC legislation, they would take a very supervisory approach to the way they’re looking at content—keep all their email communications, store them in a particular silo and interrogate that content.
