Oracle decision to drop support for Itanium may have raised a question in the minds of some IBM users of the Oracle database on IBM Power 7 systems. Should they concerned or be planning for the possibility that Oracle might be planning to drop support for Power systems? If Oracle were to drop its Power support, customers would potentially be faced with a migration to whichever platform (most likely Sun) that Oracle would support. Given recent events, clearly this is a question that could legitimately be raised. In this paper we discuss the known facts and make some admittedly speculative observations on that topic.
